Laboratory Services FAQ
Appointments
No appointment is necessary for routine lab work. If you are coming in for outpatient lab work simply stop by the front desk Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM - 5:oo PM to register. If you are coming after 5:00 PM or on the weekend you will need to register at the ER desk.
A valid physician's order is required for all lab work. A valid order includes the test requested, Physician's name and signature, a diagnosis, as well as the patient name and date of birth.

Getting Tested
As long as the request form has the ordering doctor's name and signature (can be electronically signed) as well as the diagnosis code, we can use the form given as a valid order.
Your role in the performance of a lab test is to provide a specimen that will be analyzed in a laboratory. The specimen you provide might be a small amount of body fluid, such as fluid, saliva, semen, or urine; or a sample of stool or hair. You can be assured that EMH staff will make the specimen collection process as safe, quick, and comfortable as possible, while safeguarding your dignity and privacy.
- If your provider has ordered a Lipid test it is best to fast for 8-12 hours prior to your lab draw.
- There are several specialty tests that require special diets or suppression of medication. Please contact the laboratory at 660-476-5239 to discuss if there are any special requirements for your ordered tests.
Generally, minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. EMH is required to obtain authorization for the collection procedure and the billing of tests ordered by a physician, physician's assistant, or advanced practice nurse. If you are not the child's legal guardian, you may need to provide a notarized statement signed by the minor's parent or legal guardian that authorizes you to provide this permission.
